It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's challenging for their batters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.
